Deleting Prefetch can help improve Your Computer Speed


What is Prefetch?
Prefetch files act as intermediate for providing loading knowledge for faster & optimized loading of application on the computer. Over a time period, prefetch cache can become stale & cause issues like slow process or freezing. In such case, you can open prefetch folder & delete prefetch files & permit operating process generate new set of prefetch files as you use the computer
Each time you turn on your computer, Windows keeps track of the way your computer starts & which programs you often open. Windows saves this knowledge as various small files in the prefetch folder. The next time you turn on your computer, Windows refers to these files to help speed the beginning process.
In addition, Windows operating process generate lot of temporary files while usage. Prefetch files are set of temporary files that help in better & faster loading of Windows & other program installed on it. Every time you open a program, the loading knowledge is stored in set of prefetch files. These files are used for faster loading of same program next time, without computer having to reference original source.
Prefetching knowledge is the process whereby knowledge that is expected to be requested is read ahead in to the cache. Prefetching boot files & applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP Professional & start applications.


How Prefetch affect the speed of your Computer?
Plenty of forums recommend not to delete the Prefetch, cause it will affect the loading time of the applications. It is not necessary to empty your prefetch folder but will affect your computer performance. It can accumulate much knowledge over time. This makes the operating process so busy loading bits & pieces of plenty of applications in to memory that it ends up slowing down the boot process.
Prefetch files are nice for your computer as it speed up the process of opening program applications. However, it is recommended to delete them one time in a week or one time every two weeks to make definite prefetch contents are updated & relevant as per current computer state

How am I able to delete Prefetch?
Prefetch was located in your Windows Files Folder.
1.     In your windows explorer.
2.     Open the folder C:\Windows\Prefetch
3.     Select all the contents by pressing Ctrl+A on your keyboard
4.     Then delete all the files.

This has been debunked. Please do not delete your prefetch files.
Windows automatically trims this file set over time. It is unnecessary and can cause your system to SLOW DOWN as it builds the prefetch all over again. Prefetch is basically an index, not portions of programs.
